Health techs at Tacoma hospital OK strike authorization, reject latest contract

A group of healthcare workers at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma has voted to authorize a strike after rejecting the hospital’s contract proposal. [...] UFCW 3000, which represents health technicians at the hospital, announced Monday’s vote in a release Tuesday morning. According to the union, St. Joseph Medical Center techs rejected the hospital’s contract proposal, and 99% of the participating voters chose to authorize a strike. [...] The workers have been negotiating with CommonSpirit for more than six months. The bargaining team is set to return to the bargaining table on a date to be determined.

“If CommonSpirit executives fail to deliver a contract that workers and patients deserve, then workers will consider issuing a 10-day notice to strike,” the release added.

The vote followed an informational picket held by more than 100 healthcare workers outside the hospital in August.
